We went to a beach known for a large rock called Haystack, where birds like to nest. There were large tide pools with giant purple and orange starfish and squishy green anemones. The urchins were purple and, as mom discovered, rather sharp. The rangers told us how the starfish eat the mussels off the rocks, squeezing them until they broke and them sucking the meat out. It was interesting to see so much wild life. Once we started walking into the rockier areas, another ranger showed us sea slugs, which were so alien that they looked fake. They were blue and red with soft spikes coming off of them. We had to be very careful because almost anywhere you stepped, you could kill a plant or animal.
